Treatment
Wisdom Tooth Pain
Pain at the back of the jaw has several possible causes, and which one it is decides whether the tooth comes out.
Pain around a third molar, which can come from the tooth pushing through, an infected gum flap, decay in the wisdom tooth or the molar in front, or pressure from an impaction.
We take an x-ray or a 3D scan and work out which of those it actually is, because eruption pain, infection, and decay are three different problems with three different answers.
Knowing the cause avoids removing a tooth that did not need removing, and avoids leaving one in place that is quietly damaging the healthy molar next to it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about wisdom tooth pain.
Anyone in their late teens or older with aching, throbbing, or pressure at the back of the jaw, or pain when biting down on that side.
The first appointment is diagnosis. Imaging, a look, and a straight answer about what is causing it and what the options are, including doing nothing for now.
About thirty minutes to diagnose. What follows depends entirely on the cause, from a filling to a wait-and-watch plan to an extraction.
Ibuprofen and salt water rinses help in the short term but do not treat a cause. Recurring pain that keeps settling and returning is the pattern most worth acting on.
If eruption is all it turns out to be, the pain passes on its own. If it needed treatment, recovery follows whichever treatment that was.
